Why Japan Trip
The reason for setting up this site stems from our recent holiday to Japan. We travelled independently and to help us do this we used the internet extensively to plan and research the trip. The information is out there to help anyone plan a trip to Japan but it takes a while to find that information across several outlets across the web. That along with the challenge in language barrier and culture – we thought it would be a good idea to build a resource to help people get the information they need during their planning and research.
We spent 3 weeks travelling around Japan in 2013 – We took in Tokyo, Yokohama, Hakone, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Kanazawa and Takayama. We would have loved to travel more extensively but could only afford 3 weeks away from work. During our research for the above places, we found out more about other parts of Japan and are already planning to head back there soon to see more of the great country that is Japan. We want to share what we experienced while there, provide tips, advice and help you plan your trip with the minimum effort. To some, Japan can seem scary in terms of language and difference in culture and it can seem daunting to travel around – we aim to dispell these thoughts and show you how easy it can be – especially if you prepare!
As someone who’d really only travelled extensively in countries where English was spoken, Japan was seen as a challenge for me language wise, even more of a challenge when I tell you the thought of eating fish (some raw) for 3 weeks didn’t fill me with excitement (opposite to Jenny). I thought I was really jumping in at the deep end, but in all honesty – Japan was probably the best holiday I’ve been on and I really want to help get that across via the Japan Trip website. A good bit of preparation really helped and it was a lot easier to explore than I imagined – I want to encourage anyone reading this to travel Japan – its an amazing country. Japan was always high on my list of places to visit, but I was put off by the cost – every guidebook said how expensive it was there. Despite being a very confident traveller I also wondered if we could have a relaxing holiday in Japan; maybe the culture shock would be too much and the language too hard to understand. However I love Japanese food and everything I read about the country made me want to visit even more. Although Japan is more expensive than many other countries in Asia, it is possible to survive on a small budget and still experience most of the quintessential sights, sounds and flavours of Japan. We had an absolutely fantastic time in Japan, and I cannot wait to go back. We’ll be adding to this site regularly, so if there’s something you’d like to see use the contact page to let us know.
